Merlin Robotics continues to develop exciting products, projects and applications. We started in 1998 by developing the worlds first 'Intelligent Servo Air Muscle' which incorporated ground breaking Merlin technologies and have continued to innovate and lead from the front.

We offer 'bespoke' robotic solutions from initial design through to manufacture and implementation - a leading UK company exporting worldwide.

Robot Snake

Merlin Robotics worked in partnership with Nottingham Trent University and the Edinburgh College of Art to produce a visually stunning, working 2m high, vertical robot snake. The snake featured Merlin Servo Air Muscle Technology.

"A ballerina from the English National Ballet dances next to a 2m high, vertical robot snake which looks every bit as graceful as she does! Maybe the future of robotics isn't dancing little humanoids or cute puppies, but a nice sinuous snake that can slither around your house cleaning your floors and picking up after you. They could be standard equipment in every home within a few years. 

The snake-bot was the work of Merlin Robotics, Nottingham Trent University and the Edinburgh College of Art." 

 

 

Robot Arena

Merlin's MiabotPRO Autonomous Robot Platform, its vision processing camera systems and MiabotPRO AI software formed part of one of the world's most ambitious robotics exhibitions to ever take place in Dundee - The Robot Arena.

Unlike other robotics installations which are normally 'human' interactive, whereby a human controller directly affects the movement of a robot, the Robot Arena involved the use of 'Autonomous Robotics', where the robots make second-by-second decisions and the human controller simply sets the objectives / priorities.

Apart from the visually impressive display the Robot Arena established a number of technical milestones in the world of robotics entertainment:

Provided fully autonomous operation / Ran 10 hours a day, 364 days a year with a minimum of operational input / Tracked the position of 7 robots, simultaneously in 'real time' over a vast 5m arena / Featured automated and remote diagnostics / Utilised state-of-the-art Bluetooth communications systems / Demonstrated the future of robotics and taught key elements of the Nation D&T Curriculum. 

 

Machine Shop

Currently under development, the Merlin Machine Shop is a fully automated robot factory floor designed and created to demonstrate the use of robots within industry.

Merlin MiabotPRO's travel around the machine shop interfacing with Merlin RobotARM's to clearly show how the robot factory floor functions. With the process fully automated, the demonstration clearly defines the important place that service robots serve in today's modern world.
